RockNES used to be the premier NES emulator for the Macintosh, but has been discontinued due to disagreements by Richard Bannister, who wrote the Mac port, and Fx3, the original creator. Richard Bannister suggests that users of RockNES switch to Nestopia instead. RockNES was never released in a Universal binary version, so it will only run on PowerPC Macs or under Rosetta on Intel Macs. Starting at version 4.0.0, RockNES used cycle-exact emulation that resulted in much slower performance, so a link to the much faster RockNES 3.1.3 is also provided.
